JAG APPLICANT INFORMATION

Here is information about the Dog Agility Club “JAG”. Our official name is the  Jersey AGility Association of Central New Jersey” – and for the purpose of giving AKC agility trials we are the ‘Agility Association of Central New Jersey’ - you see why we just call it ‘JAG.”

We are a club of about 100 members, mostly living in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, New Jersey, but with several members from West Jersey, South Jersey, and Staten Island and Brooklyn.

JAG offers agility training classes at all levels (Beginners…Advanced Beginners…Intermediate….Novice….

Open…Excellent….Masters (in that order)) as well as periodic seminars and clinics.  Members typically pay half of what the non-member pays for classes and clinics. Call Hollis Posner 732-303-1718 email: keetasmom@aol.com for information on the next set of classes.

See also our website http://www.jagdogs.com and follow the links to classes or whatever you’re interested in.

JAG hosts NADAC Agility trials in January and June, and AKC Agility trials in April, June and November.

Some of the benefits of being a full member of JAG include 7 days-a-week access to an outdoor training site, subscription to a members-only mailing list; preferential entry into and discounted rates for seminars and classes open to the public, and exclusive entry to members-only classes, clinics, and seminars; awards commemorating your accomplishments on the agility field and contributions to the club, as well as the priceless support of your fellow.                                agility enthusiasts.

MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Joining JAG is a little bit different from other clubs. You don’t have to take three classes at over $124 per class for us to consider offering you membership. In fact, if you are really determined to join, quickly, you don’t have to take any classes at all, just meet the meeting and work requirements described below.

To become a member, you must attend two meetings and do work for the club.  Please contact Andy Mellon, equipment@jagdogs.com or phone 732-225-5239 to find out what kind of work is currently needed.  After you’ve done work and attended one meeting you can submit the complete application.    A List of Meeting Dates is found later in this letter.

Also, you will be expected to do more work for the club in each and every ‘member year’ (July 1 to June 30 of the following year) after you join.

JAG offers four membership plans:  three types of Full Memberships, and one type of associate membership.

(Dues are annual and currently include the training fee in the price!.)  Full members get to participate in any events (subject to entry limits and criteria); full adult members may vote or hold office.

FULL MEMBERSHIP PLANS

( a )      Individual - An Individual membership is a person who is at least 18 years of age.  Individual members are eligible to hold office and vote.  Use of the training site and full member benefits, as outlined elsewhere in this packet, is included with Individual Membership.  Dues are $50.

( b )      Household- A Household Membership is comprised of any number of people living in the same household who are 7 years of age or older; at least one household member must be 18 or older. Up to two household members 18 or older may vote. Both voters must be in good standing. A Household must declare who will vote for the household at the beginning of each year. Household members are eligible to hold office. Use of the training site and full member benefits is included with Household Membership. Dues are $50 regardless of number of members in the Household Membership.

Household members under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult when training or participating in club activities; the accompanying adult can be a parent/legal guardian or member of The Club.

( c )  Junior - A Junior Member is at least 7 years of age and is under 18 years of age.  A junior member may not vote or hold office. Training privileges are a benefit of Junior Membership. When training, an adult must accompany a junior member.  Junior membership is $50

Individual, Household and Junior Members must actively participate in club activities.

During the “member year” (July 1-June 30 of the following year) a full member must, to remain in good standing, do the following things in addition to the tasks and meetings that are part of the potential member process:

-Help at JAG Agility Trials for at least two days.  This can be two consecutive days or one day at two trials.  Next trial is AKC June 16-18, and NADAC June 24-25, both at Camp Evans, Belmar NJ

-Attend three membership meetings.     Our next meeting  will be Thurs June 8.  Meetings are at Garden State Veterinary Hospital, One Pine St, Tinton Falls NJ 07753  (upstairs).

-Hold office, be on a committee, or do work for a committee.  Lists of committees will soon be available.

(d)                JAG also offers an Associate Membership, which allows preferential entry into classes and seminars over a non-member, and offers discounts on some club events. Typically, an associate member lives further away from JAG facilities, but wants to remain connected to the club.  Associate members do not have training (practice) privileges, but are not expected fulfill the work requirements listed above for full memberships; nor can they cannot vote or hold office.  They are eligible for certificates commemorating agility achievements or lots of work done for the club. To apply for an associate membership, one must complete the application, and find two sponsors, and attend a single membership meeting so that people know who you are. An associate member is a person who is at least 18 years of age.  An associate member may upgrade during the year to another membership category by meeting the requirements for full membership as stated in the bylaws, and paying any difference in dues. An associate member may participate in the yahoogroups list.  Associate member dues are $15.

                                                            TRAINING PRIVILEGE

A paddock populated with agility equipment is available exclusively for JAG members seven days a week, 14 hours a day.  The surface there is grass in a fenced-in area measuring approximately 100x200. The paddock can  be lit at night. The paddock is available to full members for practice any time there is not a   clinic, seminar or other scheduled events happening that require both fields. Members communicate with each other through a ‘yahoogroups’ mailing list, so that you will know when the paddock is not available.  There is no ‘reserving time’ at the paddock; members are expected to help each other train.

If you agree to the terms of applying for membership outlined above, do this:

1. Contact the membership committee at joinjag@hotmail.com and ask to be added to the club mailing list. Let them know you have read the requirements here. This way you’ll be informed about meetings and when other events are taking place.

Typically after you’re added to the list, you get six months to fulfill the requirements.  Six months, because our statistics show that most people either fulfill the requirements quickly, or they never do.

2. Then, make every effort to do as soon as possible:

-Attend meetings.

-Do work for the club

In the process of doing the above you should be able to get two members to sponsor your application.  You should have your sponsors lined up before you fill in the application; they should review it to make sure it is complete.

After you’ve attended a meeting and done your work, mail your check and application to the address on the application.  Applicants for associate membership should submit them one week in advance of the meeting and plan to attend that meeting so they can be voted upon

Please bring your membership application to your second meeting. Any questions please call Membership Chair Paul Mount, anytime (reasonable hours) at 732-547-0719.

Also, enclosed are registration forms for yourself and for your dogs if you wish to compete in the NADAC trials we offer.  NADAC agility is open to all dogs regardless of pedigree while AKC agility is limited to purebreds or dogs that you convince the AKC are one particular breed.  You can learn more about NADAC and AKC agility from their web sites: http://www.nadac.com  and http://www.akc.org/dic/events/agility/index.cfm  To get an AKC height card you need to attend an AKC trial and ask for the dog measurement form.

I hope to hear that you will be participating in our events and joining the club.  If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me.
